COVID-19 Pandemic Time: The Challenge and The Victory

We decided not to spare any effort to share it with those who confronted in the first line reinforcing the work they are doing. Hence, our college carried out a scientific and humanitarian campaign led by Chancellor of Basrah University to defeat COVID-19 pandemic and to ensure the continuation of the life. It was directly and enthusiastically implemented by dean, scientific vice dean, administrative vice dean, teaching and administrative staff

The First Domain

  • Prevention and Safety Measures

Printing awareness and guidance posters about prevention of COVID-19 pandemic. They were distributed in mosques, hospitals, shops, markets and state directorates and departments

  • Moral and Material Support

During the quarantine period, the official working hours of the college deanship, the human resources division and accounting division did not stop daily by 100% presence while the rest of scientific branches and divisions by 50%. The retirement transections for our affiliates were completed during the above-mentioned period as well as the contracts and wages database were continuously arranged and updated

The Deanship of the College of Medicine provided financial support to number of students (those in need) of the College of Medicine in order to activate the internet in their mobile SIM cards during period of E-learning and then online exam.

The Deanship of the College of Medicine and all faculty members participated through financial donations for the success of the (have mercy) Campaign, through which around 1500 food baskets were distributed to poor families in the governorate.

  • Disinfecting the Entire College Building

Disinfecting the entire college building in cooperation with the Civil Defense Directorate and holding seminars for the college employees about the COVID-19 pandemic

 

The Second Domain:

  • The laboratory of Production of COVID-19 Transport Medium

 This laboratory had been opened in our college at April 2nd 2020 for production of the nasopharyngeal swabs and the viral transport media. Large number had been produced by the participation of the faculty members of college of medicine, college of dentistry, college of nursing, postgraduate students and the employees of our college. A total of 12244 nasopharyngeal swabs and 6122 transport media had been produced.

 Next is the receipt endorsement of Basrah Directorate of Health of two RT PCR devices by the temporary loan system from University of Basrah for the benefit of the Public Health Laboratory.

Preparation of the central laboratory of college of medicine for the aid in diagnosis of cases of COVID-19 in case of increased number of patients.

 Ventilators had been manufactured by the cooperation of the faculty members from college of medicine and college of engineering to give support to hospitals of ministry of health for management of patients with COVID-19 and other patients with respiratory diseases that need ventilatory support.

Assigning the Dean of Basrah College of Medicine to be a member of COVID-19 crisis cell and the research committee for combating COVID-19 pandemic at Basrah University.

 Mr. Dean was honored from World Health Organization for his distinguished role in combating COVID-19 pandemic.
