The University of Basrah team won the Universities Chess Championship for the academic year 2022-2023 held at the Southern Technical University. Where 52 public and private Iraqi universities and from all governorates of Iraq participated in the competition with the active participation of students of the college of Education for Girls, the college of Engineering, the college of Medicine, and the college of Administration and Economics. Where the student in the third stage of the college  of Medicine, Nour Al-Huda Mohammed, won first place over Iraq, and the students in the fourth stage of the college of Medicine, Hassanen Wathiq  Feroan , and Mustafa Ali Jassim, won third place over Iraq, with outstanding performance for all participating teams and under the supervision of the Student Activities Unit.
