A Board research in the College of Medicine discusses the use of regular saline solution with topical lidocaine during surgery Burrard's.

A Board research at the College of Medicine, University of Basra discussed the use of regular saline solution with topical lidocaine during surgeries in relieving pain level for patients who underwent laparoscopic cholecystectomy by student Habayeb Subeih Shamkhi.
The research aims to evaluate the efficacy of combining ascites with saline solution with local anesthesia using lidocaine in reducing post-operative pain in cholecystectomy in Iraqi patients in local working conditions.
The research concluded that the use of saline ascites with local anesthesia using lidocaine led to a reduction in the degree of post-operative pain in addition to a reduction in the degree of sympathetic nervous system stimulation, inferred by the moderation of the heartbeat and respiratory rate in addition to the level of systolic pressure in patients undergoing cholecystectomy by laparoscopy. The research recommended the use of ascites with saline and topical lidocaine as a way to reduce the level of pain after laparoscopic cholecystectomy because it is commonly available, cheap, and free of collateral damage.
