The College of Medicine, University of Basra, hosted the discussion of a master's degree in physics. The master's thesis by student Manal Murad Qasim discussed improving the performance of the immune system by laser irradiation. The discussion was attended by the President of Basra University, Prof. Dr. Saad Shaheen Hammadi, and the Assistant Dean of the College of Medicine for Scientific Affairs, Assistant Professor Dr. Fateh Abdul-Saheb Al-Khaqani. The research aims to study the effect of irradiation using semiconductor lasers on lymphocyte activity.
The researcher found that the 635nm laser irradiation leads to regulation of cell membrane permeability, pH regularity, improvement of blood's ability to transport oxygen and an increase in lymphocyte stimulation. The researcher concluded the possibility of using irradiation with this laser to improve the immune system.
