The Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Unit at the University of Basrah - College of Medicine, in cooperation with the Student Activities Unit, and in accordance with the directives of the Ministry of Higher Education & Scientific Research and the University of Basrah, held an awareness seminar on the phenomenon of divorce: causes and solutions, presented by Prof. Dr. Hana Abdul Nabi Al-Abbadi and discussed the psychological, social, and cultural aspects that cause divorce and how to address them.
She discussed the most important psychological causes leading to divorce, such as poor social communication, loss of understandings between  couples, and family interference in marital life. She also discussed social causes such as poverty, unemployment, lack of a private place for the couples to live, lack of education and awareness in marital matters, and the absence of a social counselor before and after marriage. Dr. Abdul-Ali Hamid Al-Tamimi then gave a lecture entitled "The Role of Laws and Legislation in Reducing the Increasing Phenomenon of Divorce in Iraqi Society." He addressed local laws and the rights in cases of divorce. He explained these laws in details, explaining the rights and the recommendations to reduce the phenomenon of divorce and guarantee the rights of couples in cases of divorce.
