In a remarkable medical achievement, under the leadership of the Anesthesia Consultant and Dean of the University of Basrah - College of Medicine, Prof. Dr. Nawfal Ali Al-Mubarak, and the participation of the consultant physician in endocrine surgery, Dr. Abdul Amir Mohsen Al-Daraji, a highly risky surgical procedure was successfully performed in cooperation with the Al-Faihaa Specialized Center for Diabetes and Endocrinology.
The operation involved the removal of the right and left adrenal glands of a 23-year-old patient from Basrah who was suffering from severe elevation in blood pressure and a rapid heart rate. After conducting the necessary tests, two large tumors were found in both adrenal glands, which were secreting very high levels of adrenaline (bilateral pheochromocytoma), posing a significant risk to the patient's life.
After the patient was medically prepared and given the necessary treatments to control the condition, the surgical procedure was successfully performed without any significant complications, despite its consideration as high risk operation.
