The Board thesis entitled: Clinical Outcomes of Lumbar Laminotomy and Laminectomy in Basrah was discussed at University of Basrah - College of Medicine. The thesis presented by student Mohammed Majed Manati, aims to to assess the clinical outcomes and the results of lumbar laminectomy for lumbar canal stenosis and laminotomy for lumbar disc herniation in Basrah during a period of 26 months and compare them with the results of similar published studies. The thesis concluded that Lumbar laminotomy and laminectomy in Basrah have a high success rate in relieving the back and/or radicular pain and disability which is identical to the results of the majority of similar published studies in the international literature and even better than many of them, probably because of the rigid selection criteria that was followed, which is  apart from ensuring a good outcome, it reduces hospital stay and allow early rehabilitation particularly for the diabetic, the smoker and the elderly.
