A diploma thesis at the University of Basrah - College of Medicine, discussed a review of the causes and risk factors for postpartum hemorrhage. The thesis presented by the student Yasmine Hassan Obaid Al-Fatlawy: aims to identify the recurring causes of this obstetric problem and analyze the risk factors that lead to such obstetric emergencies. The thesis concluded that the majority of patients who had a “uterine neoplasm” were the main cause of postpartum hemorrhage, while the primary (postpartum hemorrhage) were of young age groups and multiple births. The early separation of the placenta and the complications of  “induced labor” and “prolonged labor” have been shown to be the most important dangerous factors that lead to postpartum hemorrhage. Diabetes and caesarean operation have not been shown to be risk factors for postpartum hemorrhage. The majority of postpartum haemorrhage patients improved with conservative treatment and blood transfusion.
