The instructor in the Microbiology Branch of the College of Medicine, University of Basra, Prof. Dr. Ihsan Idan Al-Simary, recorded nine Iraqi global genes for the students he supervises in the International Gene Bank at the American NCBI. This is considered an achievement in the name of the University of Basra and Iraq as a whole.
