A higher diploma research at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Basra, discussed the indicators and rate of caesarean sections among primiparous  mothers. The research presented by student Dalia Abdul Karim aims to determine the extent of caesarean section, and describe clinical indicators and the result of caesarean section in an attempt to reduce the rate of caesarean sections for primiparous mother. It is worth mentioning that caesarean section is one of the most common surgeries in the practice of obstetrics to save the lives of the mother and newborns from complications associated with pregnancy and childbirth. Its spread has increased alarmingly in the past few years. The research concluded that the caesarean section rate in primiparous women is much higher than the "ideal rate" recommended by the World Health Organisation and efforts should be made to reduce the rate of caesarean sections in accordance with the recommendations of the World Health Organisation.
