Board research at the college of Medicine, University of Basrah discusses Vitamin D Status in Pediatric Patients with COVID-19 Infection

 

A  Board research, at the college of Medicine, University of Basrah, discussed Vitamin D Status in Pediatric Patients with COVID-19 Infection. The research presented by student Ali Najim Abdullah , aims to Assess the vitamin D status among pediatric patients with COVID 19 infection and control groups ,and Study selected patients’ characteristics in relation to their vitamin D level and COVID-19 PCR resultsThe research concluded that COVID – 19 PCR results was significantly associated with those with shortness of breath ; patients with shortness of breath had a significantly low vitamin D level  moreover, a poor outcome was significantly related to low mean level of vitamin D , those who died had the lowest vitamin D level .In conclusion, it is clear that low vitamin D levels are associated with an increased risk of hospitalization and poor outcomes in children.  Screening for vitamin D status and Supplementation with the vitamin were recommended for pediatric COVID-19 patients, particularly in situations of deficit.
