A Board research in the College of Medicine comparing histochemical immunohistochemical examination and immunocytochemical examination of hormone receptors in breast cancer

A Bord College of Medicine research compared the histochemical immunoassay with cytochemical immunohistochemical examination of hormone receptors in breast cancer. The research presented by student Zainab Abdel Amir Amin aims to evaluate the diagnostic capacity of estrogen and progesterone receptors in the cytological examination of fine needle aspiration compared to the results with the immunochemical histological examination.
The research concluded that half of the patients had a positive hormonal change in the cytochemical immunoassay compared to two thirds of the patients in the immunochemical histological examination, and there was a significant difference in the change of hormone receptors between the immunocytochemical examination and the immunochemical histological examination. The research recommended core needle biopsy as an alternative method to obtain better diagnostic results.
