The College of Medicine at the University of Basrah held a cultural lecture on the role of society in caring for orphans, coinciding with the holy month of Ramadan. The lecture was given by employees of the Al Ain Foundation for Social Welfare.
Caring for orphans is considered one of the most important social responsibilities borne by society. In light of the challenges that orphans face in their early lives, charities play a vital role in providing care and support to these children who have lost one or both of their parents.
The lecture discussed the services provided by Al Ain Charitable Foundation, which include sponsoring orphans and treating cancerous diseases for those under the age of eighteen and orphan patients registered with the Foundation.
The lecture showed that the role of society in caring for and sponsoring orphans is one of the most beautiful manifestations of faith, as they are most in need of care and attention. The poor needs the material expenses of life, while the orphan's needs extend to include the material and emotional aspects. A society subject to the standards of religion and faith feels responsible towards orphans and is sensitive to their pain.
And in the words of God Almighty: “No, but you do not honor the orphan” is a condemnation of the pre-Islamic materialistic society that turns away from moral values and principles. God Almighty made their neglect of the orphan a sign of their deviation.
