The Basrah University / College of Medicine organized a scientific symposium on basic communication skills for members of Surgery Department, under the supervision of the responsible for the communication skills curriculum, Prof. Dr. Sawsan Issa Al-Jabri, with the participation of Assistant Prof. Dr. Alaa Khattar, a specialist in internal medicine and the Lecturer, Dr. Rafid Abdul-Jabbar, a specialist in general surgery, and the participation of other members from Surgery Department. The symposium aims to increase the knowledge base and acquire basic skills in how to deal with the patient during the clinical examination to train college students, and the most important thing that was presented and discussed is understanding the patient’s expression during the illness period and the skills of listening and empathy for the patient.
