Board research at the College of Medicine, University of Basra discussed the estimation of interleukin-6 and c-reactive protein in children with cancer and neutropenia. The research presented by student Ibtihal Akram Mubarak aims to determine the value of using Interleukin-6 and CRP for early diagnosis of infection in cancer patients who receive chemotherapy. The research concluded that the level of IL-6 is higher in children with a medically documented infection (MDI). Before and on the third day of receiving antibiotics, the level of CRP was also found to be higher in cases of MDI on the third day of receiving antibiotics. The highest rate in cases of solid tumor with metastasis in the blood but not statistically significant. Early identification of infection markers and disease severity is Essential to start effective treatment in a timely manner and to prevent avoidable deaths.
