A Board research in the College of Medicine discusses the study of the incidence of cholecystectomy after laparoscopic gastrectomy.

Board research at the College of Medicine, University of Basra discussed the study of the incidence of cholecystectomy after laparoscopic gastrectomy by student Aya Rabeeh Hashem. The research aims to study the occurrence of cholecystectomy after gastric bypass operation and to indicate the need for preventive cholecystectomy at the time of gastric sleeve gastrectomy for all patients. The research concluded that the incidence of gallstones after laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy is about 30%, and this indicates that a large percentage of patients will not suffer from gallstones in the postoperative period, so it is unwise to perform a preventive cholecystectomy for all patients. The research recommended that a cholecystectomy should not be performed for all patients with sleeve gastrectomy.
