About the museum

Reading history inspires mankind  giving lessons  , promotes creativity in it and reduces  possible mistakes.

the idea of ​​the medical museum, which was initiated by Professor Thamer Ahmad Hamdan, President of Basra University, committed and implemented by Prof. Dr. Ahmed Muhammad al-Abbasi, Dean of the College of Medicine, so the nucleus of the museum was on the first floor of a building The College of Medicine overlooks the Al-Khora River, the museum consists of two halls, one of which is dedicated to displaying photographs that chronicle the practice of medicine in Basra Governorate from the beginning of the twentieth century through the establishment of the College of Medicine to the present day. 
It also includes a set of traditional medical books and magazines, educational aids and a set of administrative supplies. The second hall was prepared to include a set of medical, surgical and laboratory tools during the time period of the college’s history, which reviews and shapes Basra’s medical memory and the contribution of optical doctors to the development of their city. It is hoped that the museum will expand to include additional means. Patient specimens, collectibles, and publications of the Arab and Islamic medical heritage.
