The Pediatrics department of the College of Medicine, University of Basrah, organized a training workshop on basic communication skills for clinical department teachers, under the supervision of the responsible for the communication skills curriculum, Professor Dr. Sawsan Issa Habib, with the participation of Assistant Professor Dr. Alaa Khattar, a specialist in internal medicine, and Dr. Rafid Abdul-Jabbar, a specialist in general surgery.The workshop aims to increase the knowledge base and acquire basic skills in how to deal with the patient during the medical interview to train college students. One of the most important things that were proposed and discussed is understanding the patient’s perspective during the illness period and listening skills and empathy based on respecting the sick person to build the pathological history, as well as the curriculum for teaching communication skills for college students from the first stage to the sixth stage and the adoption of the teacher’s manual for practical training. Emphasis was placed on continuing to train all teaching staff on communication skills to support the educational process of college students
